Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect?

When you first arrive at a Snook Ranch, you will immediately feel right at home. With a beverage of your choice in hand, we will take some time to get to know you and layout our plans for the next few days. We are not a “typical” guest ranch where the hour-by-hour activities are defined for you, but the activities are designed around what is going on at the ranch to ensure that you are getting an authentic experience. During your time at the ranch, you will ride great cow horses, enjoy the beautiful outdoors, experience the cowboy lifestyle and most of all have fun!

Best time to come?

There really isn’t a “best time to come” – anytime is a great time to visit a Snook Ranch. We are open for guests from mid-April to the end of October. Each month provides different weather and different activities. From April to May, the weather can be cooler with an average temperature of 40 – 60 degrees Fahrenheit. June through August are the hotter months with average temperatures of 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and September and October range from 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

What to pack?

Depending on the time you visit, you should pack lots of riding cloths, a light jacket, sunscreen and a hat to protect you from the sun. If you happen to forget something we have a variety of jackets and hats you may use at the ranch and the shopping center is not far away.

How to book?

To provide you a local resource to contact regarding ranch questions, we have booking representatives located in various countries and work with a variety of travel agents. Each one of our representatives has been a guest to the ranch and has experienced it just as you will, so they are a great resource for you to learn what the ranch has to offer. There are two airports near the ranch. The first is Rapid City Regional Airport, located in Rapid City, South Dakota, and is about two hours from the ranch. The second is Gillette-Campbell County Airport, located in Gillette, Wyoming and is about one hour from the ranch. We do offer airport transfer to and from the airport.

Shopping nearby?

There are a variety of western clothing and horse tack stores in the area. Spearfish and Belle Fourche, South Dakota provide some great shopping within about a 45-minute drive from the ranch. If you choose to go shopping we can arrange for your trip to and from these local shopping destinations.
